Each Chö-pa singing bowl is cast, heated, hammered and finished by hand. The process gives each bowl its own shape, weight, thickness and deep, resonant tone. The gold-coloured surface is slightly irregular. Some versions have fine engraving near the rim.
The traditional metal alloy is described as containing tin, silver, nickel, cadmium, ruthenium, palladium, platinum, chromium and manganese. Bowls are classified primarily by weight. The diameter is approximate and can vary with handwork.
Use the bowl for meditation, yoga, mindful breathing, relaxation, sound rituals or symbolic space cleansing. Rest it on your palm or a suitable support to allow it to vibrate freely. Tap the outside rim gently or move the striker around the rim for a sustained tone.
